THE MAHONES are a Canadian Irish-punk band started back in 1990 by Finny McConnell from Dublin. Initially formed as a one-off band for that year’s St. Patrick’s Day party, the band was that well received that now, almost 25 years later, it still exists and is going strong.
THE MAHONES, with Finny’s wife Katie ‘Kaboom’ McConnell on accordion, put on a great live show and have released a dozen albums over the years, including some live albums and a compilation.
They have toured extensively and shared the stage with an impressive list of names like Dropkick Murphys, Stiff Little Fingers, Shane MacGowan and The Popes, Billy Bragg, Chuck Ragan, UK Subs, CRAIC, Sick Of It All, The Defects, Agnostic Front, The Buzzcocks, D.O.A., Against Me, The Tragically Hip, Crash Vegas, The Damned, Suicidal Tendencies, The Prodigy, Gwar, Skunk Anansie, Tricky, Blue Rodeo, Steve Earle, The Alarm, Sinéad O’Connor, Street Dogs, Roger Miret and The Disasters, Flogging Molly, Spirit of the west, The Dubliners, Christy Moore, The Band and Van Morrison.
I shot these pictures on the first night of the European leg of the ‘Celtic Punk Invasion Tour’ (with Bryan McPherson, Blood Or Whiskey and Dropkick Murphys) on 3 February 2015 at Klokgebouw Eindhoven.
