WILLEMIJN MAY. Singer-songwriter from Bodegraven NL who started nurturing her passion for music at 11 when she took piano and singing lessons. WILLEMIJN attracts a lot of attention lately and has been guest in Dutch national radio shows of DJs Rob Stenders and Giel Beelen.
Only 16 years old today she has released her first EP WILLOW TREE in June 2014, filled with beautiful self-written songs like FIRE and GUIDE ME HOME.
On 2 November 2014 I shot these pictures of WILLEMIJN MAY performing live as support act for ROBB MURPHY in TAPPERIJ DE VERWACHTING in Assendelft.
A local pub, guests who mainly are there to have a beer and discuss football and the like, usually hardly aware of the artist playing in the corner. Not the easiest audience for an artist in the singer-songwriter genre.
WILLEMIJN, accompanied by RUUD BOELENS (guitar) and JOERI VAN DONGEN (drums) seems very relaxed, sings her own very personal songs, throws in some jokes and also does some amazing cover versions of songs she hopes sound familiar to the audience like Ray Charles’ GEORGIA and Ed Sheeran’s I SEE FIRE and the unbelievable happens: the usually pretty loud crowd turns completely silent and listens fully concentrated to this young lady’s breathtaking performance.
Needless to add that I was very impressed. I am convinced that we will hear more, much more of WILLEMIJN and that a bright future lies ahead of her. Brilliant.
