Gruppo Sportivo started their career in the 70s.
Founder is Hans Vandenburg, who has always been the writer of the songs for the band. Main successes were celebrated in the 70s and early 80s.
In 2013 Hans decided that after 37 years it was time to put an end to the live act of the band and to start a farewell tour. This evening in Patronaat Haarlem marks the end of an era as this is the very last show of Gruppo Sportivo’s farewell tour.
Lies Schilp and Inge Bonthond, the original Bombitas who also were backing vocals for Herman Brood, will continue with some of the band’s members: Peter Callicher (keyboards) en Max Mollinger (drums). Together with 2 members of Powerplay: Jan van der Mey (vocals) and Bas Coulier (bass) they will form Bombitas XL and play material from the repertoire the bands they were once part of: Herman Brood & His Wild Romance, Vitesse, I’ve Got The Bullets, The Frozen Frog, Gruppo Sportivo and Powerplay.
